Imagine standing in front of your favorite book and feeling the world pull you inside. Imagine the pages fluttering open, the ink disappearing, the air stirring like magic, and suddenly you're not reading the adventure; you're living it.
I think about this more often than I would like to admit.
Would I choose Hogwarts, where the castle is charged with magic and feels like it's calling to me deep in my soul? I can almost smell the food in the Great Hall, hear Peeves' laughter, and feel the magic tingling on my fingertips as it calls to my wand.
Or maybe I'd wander Middle-earth following the elegance of Legolas and the magical prowess of Gandalf. I can feel the cool breeze of the Misty Mountains creating goosebumps on my skin, the smell of the crisp fresh air that tickles my nose, and the rumbling of trolls in the distance causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up.
And there's the darker pull. The idea of questing beside a knight cursed with immortality, fighting back whatever evil slips through the veil. Feeling the adrenaline pumping through my veins, smelling the stench of rot spewing off of the demons, and hearing swords clang against the armor of the demons. There is something irresistible about a world where danger feels mythic, where every choice matters.
The truth is I don't know if I could choose just one.
Because everyone has that one book, or at least one that feels like home in a way reality never quite manages. A story that catches your breath and refuses to let go. A world that feels it was written just for you, even though you are not the only reader.
Books give us places to run to when life feels too heavy. They give us places to rest when the real world is too loud. They give us places to be brave, reckless, magical, powerful, all the things we don't always get to be outside their pages.
And bookstores... well, bookstores are the closest thing we have to portals in the real world. Every shelf is a doorway. Every spine is the key. Every story is waiting for someone, maybe you, to step inside.
That's why I love reading. That's why I love the idea of adventure, even if it's only in my head. I've traveled thousands of worlds, traversed many adventures, and saved the world numerous times.
So here's my question, not just for you, but to myself;
If the book opened, the ink disappeared, and the world called your name.......
Which story would you step into? And who would you become once you crossed the threshold?
